Careers at Harborview Medical Center
Challenge. Collaboration. Compassion.
Challenge
Harborview is an ideal place to thrive in a supportive, high-intensity and fast-paced environment. You’ll be encouraged to grow, advance your career, expand your community and make a difference in people’s lives.
Collaboration
Every colleague is viewed as a potential leader, enjoys a high degree of autonomy and trust, and is empowered to ask tough questions.
Compassion
We believe that the kindness and caring we show patients, colleagues, and everyone who comes through our doors is a vital part of creating the best possible healing environment. Working at Harborview isn’t just a job — it’s a calling.
We’re on a mission
At Harborview, life-defining moments occur every day. We’re driven by our mission to serve the greater good by improving the health of the public.
Every team member is proud to provide the same world-class care for patients from every walk of life, especially our most vulnerable and underserved neighbors. We’re proud of our legacy of providing care for those without health insurance, people who are incarcerated, people suffering from mental illness or substance abuse, and patients who need the highest level of emergency, trauma or burn care.
As the only Level I trauma and burn center in the region, we care for patients from Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho, and serve as the disaster preparedness hospital for King County.
Many of our patients choose Harborview for planned procedures like laser surgery for vision correction, brain surgery or vascular surgery. We’re regional leaders in HIV/AIDS medicine. U.S. News & World Report recognizes UW Medicine hospitals as “high performing” across array of common adult procedures and conditions.
Why join the Harborview team?
Whether you’re a doctor, nurse, technician, therapist, admitting clerk or cafeteria worker, you’ll be a vital, valued part of our team. Our hospitality staff cheers patients as they take their first steps following an accident. Our baristas learn the names — and favorite drinks — of family members. Financial counselors work closely with patients and families to help them understand their options.
No matter how great the challenge, we find a way to get it done together, while creating a true, personal connection with each of our patients.
That’s the power of people who listen to each other — and an essential part of what makes working at Harborview so special.
As part of UW Medicine, we’re committed to enhancing our level of care through teaching, community service and research. You’ll experience and benefit from our active support of undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate and continuing education programs for virtually every healthcare profession.
Our commitment to a diverse, inclusive team
We’re proud of our long tradition of creating a respectful, diverse, collaborative space where all feel welcome. It’s okay — and valued — to be unique, to truly be you, at Harborview. We believe it helps our patients to see themselves in us, which makes it easier for them to feel safe and at home.
We honor each person’s unique contributions and encourage all applicants regardless of socioeconomic status, age, race, ethnicity, language, nationality, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, spiritual practice, pregnancy, marital status, physical or mental disability, or any other protected characteristic.
