About Veena Shankaran
Veena Shankaran, M.D., is a board certified oncologist at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center and UW Medical Center and a UW professor of Medicine and Oncology.
Dr. Shankaran specializes in caring for patients with gastrointestinal cancers, with a focus on cancers of the stomach and esophagus. She believes in providing patients and their families with the knowledge, perspective, compassion and resources to navigate their illness and treatment course with self-assurance and dignity. In addition to providing access to the latest scientific data and clinical trials, she will work with patients to develop an individualized treatment plan based on their particular needs and circumstances.
Dr. Shankaran earned her M.D. at the University of Michigan. Her clinical and research interests include health services and health economics research.
Personal Interests
When she isn’t working, Dr. Shankaran likes listening to opera, playing piano and practicing yoga. Her husband is a physician at UWMC.
