About Shannon M. Colohan
Shannon Colohan, MD, MSc, FACS, FRCSC, is a board-certified plastic surgeon at UW Medicine's Center for Reconstructive Surgery and a UW associate professor of Plastic Surgery. Dr. Colohan is an expert in reconstructive plastic surgery with a specific focus on cancer reconstruction. She specializes in microsurgery and performs all types of autologous flap reconstructions for breast cancer (DIEP, TUG, SGAP, IGAP etc.), as well as other cancers including sarcoma. Dr. Colohan also performs implant-based breast reconstruction and has an interest in pediatric /adolescent breast surgery. Additionally, she treats skin cancers (removal and reconstruction and lymph node biopsy) including melanoma, squamous & basal cell cancer and Merkel cell cancer. She believes that educating patients about their options and involving them in all aspects of their care is key to achieving good outcomes.
Her research interests include study design and clinical outcomes in reconstructive plastic surgery with an emphasis on breast reconstruction. Dr. Colohan enjoys teaching medical students and residents.
Personal Interests
Dr. Colohan enjoys traveling, good food, live music and the arts. She also has an interest in interior design, learning the oboe, and enjoys spending time with her two large rescue dogs.
