Richard G. Ellenbogen, M.D., F.A.C.S., is an attending surgeon at Harborview Medical Center, Seattle Children’s and UW Medical Center - Montlake. Dr. Ellenbogen is also a professor and chair of the UW Department of Neurological Surgery. 

Dr. Ellenbogen strives to create active partnerships with his patients to achieve the best possible outcomes.

Dr. Ellenbogen served in the U.S. Army as chief of Neurosurgery at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He was deployed with the 18th Airborne Corps during Desert Storm and was awarded a Bronze Star for his service to soldiers with traumatic brain injury (TBI).

Dr. Ellenbogen’s clinical interests include pediatric and adult brain tumors, craniofacial developmental abnormalities and trauma, Chiari malformations, minimally invasive brain surgery, neuro-trauma surgery and concussion. His research interests include studying the long-term cognitive and health effects of TBI, molecular imaging/nanotechnology and cerebrospinal fluid physiology.
