Meghan Flanagan, M.D., M.P.H., is a board-certified surgeon and Assistant Professor of Surgery. She serves as Co-Chair of the UW Medical Center Northwest Campus Breast Steering Committee, Affiliate Investigator in Public Health Sciences at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, and Full Member of the Fred Hutchinson and UW Cancer Consortium. Dr. Flanagan was selected as a Seattle Met Top Doc in 2019.

Dr. Flanagan has clinical expertise in the evaluation and treatment of cancerous and benign breast disease including breast cancer, ductal carcinoma in situ, high risk atypical lesions, fibroadenomas and nipple discharge. She also evaluates and treats women at high risk of breast cancer based on prior biopsy findings and family history, including genetic mutation carriers. She has had extensive training in advanced surgical procedures for breast cancer including nipple and skin sparing mastectomies, and is certified in hidden scar surgery. Dr. Flanagan believes in treating each patient individually, intentionally integrating standard of care and current developments in the field with patient preferences and goals. She feels that it is critical to remain apprised of ongoing advances in the field and is dedicated to optimizing and advancing breast care.

Dr. Flanagan has extensive experience in health services and outcomes research and has won multiple awards and honors for her work. Dr. Flanagan’s current research evaluates breast cancer tumor response when chemotherapy and immunotherapy are used as an initial treatment. She is also investigating treatment patterns and recurrence after diagnosis with an atypical breast lesion, and among women at elevated lifetime risk of breast cancer.
