Kathleen S. Berfield, MD, is a board-certified thoracic surgeon and Chief of Thoracic Surgery at the VA Puget Sound HCS, her primary site of practice. Dr. Berfield also sees patients at the UW Medical Center’s Thoracic Surgery Clinic and is involved in the UW Lung Transplant Program.

Dr. Berfield’s clinical interests include general thoracic oncology and end-stage lung disease including lung transplantation.  She loves working with veterans from across the Pacific Northwest and is working to expand surgical care including robotic thoracic surgery to the VA Puget Sound.

Dr. Berfield is board-certified in thoracic surgery and is the inaugural graduate from the University of Washington’s Integrated Thoracic Surgery Residency program. Dr. Berfield is passionate about surgical education and is the Program Director for the University of Washington Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency Programs.
