Karen Horvath, MD, FACS, is a board-certified general surgeon at General Surgery Clinic at UW Medical Center - Montlake. Dr. Horvath is a UW Professor of Surgery and has completed advanced fellowship training in surgical critical care and minimally invasive surgery. Dr. Horvath has been elected several times for "Seattle's Top Doctors" and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Horvath is nationally renowned for the treatment of necrotizing pancreatitis and leads the multi-disciplinary team at UW Medicine which receives patient referrals from all over the Pacific Northwest. She practices on the Emergency General Surgery team and manages a broad range of surgical diseases from hernias and biliary colic to complex gastrointestinal surgical problems. Dr. Horvath enjoys caring for patients through all stages of their surgical care. She feels that no matter what our backgrounds, we are all equal when it comes to getting sick, going through treatment, and hoping for a good prognosis.

Dr. Horvath’s main areas of research include minimally invasive surgical approaches for patients with necrotizing pancreatitis. In addition to general and laparoscopic surgery, she is an expert in gastrointestinal surgery. She is also an award-winning surgical education researcher.
