Even though Dr. Carki was seeing patients back-to-back & I was late, she gave me her full attention, did not appear rushed, did not scold me for being late, and took her time going over all the details of my record, explaining new medications, making suggestions for improvements, and was encouraging In every way. She Is always prepared for my visits & gives her full attention to me each time.

Dr. Carkin is a phenomenal doctor. She explains everything very clearly and takes into account much more than just arthritis a related conditions - she reads through all the latest info on you from other appts in Mychart before she ever enters the exam room. She makes connections and recommendations to bring up with my PCP about possible areas that need a further workup. I always leave feeling I have been truly "seen," as a whole person - not just a bundle of symptoms. She uses empowering language and is very frank and positive at the same time.

She is truly interested in how I'm doing and really listens. She checks to see if what she hears and understands is what im trying to convey. She's realistic but also encouraging and compassionate. She manages to keep improving in everything - and she's been amazing for years. I feel safe talking with her and confident in her decisions and treatment recommendations. She's one of the best doctors I've seen and encountered over years of medical treatment. Only one other doctor has been comparable, and it's a specialist she referred me to. I would absolutely recommend her to anyone needing a rheumatologist.

About Julie Carkin
Julie Carkin, M.D., is a board certified physician, director of the Strong Bones Program and a founding member of The Seattle Arthritis Clinic at UW Medicine’s Northwest Outpatient Medical Center and a UW associate professor of Medicine. She is regularly listed as a Seattle Top Doc in Seattle Magazine and Seattle Metropolitan Magazine.
If you have suffered a low-trauma fracture, Dr. Carkin wants you to not only heal your broken bone but get better than you were before the fracture. If you are someone who suffers with rheumatoid arthritis or lupus, she wants to allow you to participate fully at home, at play, at work and within your community.
Dr. Carkin earned her M.D. from Boston University. Her clinical and research interests include osteoporosis and fracture prevention, full-spectrum care of complex inflammatory arthritis and immune system diseases.

When not totally obsessed with Major League Baseball (and dreaming of the Seattle Mariners winning the World Series), Dr. Carkin loves bicycling, hiking, cross-country skiing and exploring new cities.
