Jonathan G. Sham, MD, MBEE, is board-certified in hepatobiliary and complex surgical oncology, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at UW School of Medicine, and practices at both the UW Medical Center - Montlake and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center.
Dr. Sham specializes in the surgical management of pancreatic cancer, pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors, pancreatic cysts (IPMN, MCN, etc.), liver cancer, liver tumors (adenoma, FNH, etc.), bile duct cancer (cholangiocarcinoma), and gallbladder cancer. He provides state-of-the-art surgical care for patients with benign and malignant hepatopancreatobiliary conditions with robotic, laparoscopic, and open hepatopancreatobiliary procedures including the Whipple operation (pancreaticoduodenectomy), distal pancreatectomy, Appleby procedure, pancreatic enucleation, bile duct resection, liver resection (hepatectomy), and cholecystectomy.
Dr. Sham’s approach with every patient is to create a strong partnership to help navigate the complex decisions required to treat their cancer. He strives to combine precision with compassion in order to support each patient in identifying and fulfilling their treatment goals, whatever they may be. His goal is to treat every patient as if they were his own family and provide personalized treatments at the cutting-edge of cancer care.
His research interests include developing innovative devices that make surgery safer and more effective, and novel therapeutics to improve the outcomes of patients with pancreatic cancer.
