About George A. Rooke
G. Alec Rooke, M.D., is a board certified anesthesiologist and UW professor of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine. He is a former medical director of UW Medicine's Pre-Anesthesia Clinic and was the first director of the Anesthesia Device Service. He has won the department’s annual teaching award on multiple occasions.
Dr. Rooke enjoys helping patients through their surgical experience. It is rewarding to allay patients' fears, provide them the best possible anesthetic and pain relief after surgery, and do everything he can to make their experience successful. He especially appreciates older patients or those with serious, chronic medical conditions.
Dr. Rooke earned his M.D. and Ph.D. from the UW. He was the first person in the U.S. to complete a fellowship in Geriatric Anesthesia. He is a former chair of the American Society of Anesthesiologists Committee on Geriatric Anesthesia, and founding president of the Society for the Advancement of Geriatric Anesthesia.
Personal Interests
In his free time Dr. Rooke enjoys hiking, backpacking, sailing and cross-country skiing.
