About Alan A. Artru
Alan Artru, M.D., is a board certified anesthesiologist and chief of Anesthesia, associate medical director and chief of staff of UW Medical Center. He is also a UW professor of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine.
Dr. Artru’s patient care philosophy is to respect the sanctity of life.
Dr. Artru earned his M.D. from the Medical College of Wisconsin and holds a certificate in Medical Management from the UW. He has done extensive research regarding the brain and central nervous system. He is past president of the Society for Neuroscience in Anesthesiology and Critical Care and the laboratory reports editor for the Journal of Neurosurgical Anesthesiology. His clinical and research interests include anesthesia for patients having neurosurgery, brain blood flow and metabolism, cerebrospinal fluid dynamics, movement of drugs between brain, blood and cerebrospinal fluid and improving neurological outcome from brain injury.
