About Alaska WWAMI

What began in 1971 as a pioneering partnership between the University of Washington School of Medicine and the state of Alaska (with a small, yet mighty class of nine students) has evolved to unite five Northwestern states to provide publicly funded medical education and a pathway for physicians to train and practice medicine in their home states. For every ten medical school seats funded by Alaska, about six WWAMI-trained physicians practice in-state. The entering class of 2023 included 25 students from Alaska, and beginning with the entering class of 2025, 30 students per year will be accepted into Alaska WWAMI.
