Acceptance Statistics

The UW School of Medicine works to support the physician workforce needs of the WWAMI (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana and Idaho) region. As such, around 96% of our class on average are residents of one of the five states that we support. We do accept applicants from outside the WWAMI region; however, it is far more competitive. Therefore, we recommend that all applicants looking to apply to the UW School of Medicine ensure that it is the right fit for their aspirations.

We do not accept international or Canadian students. Applicants with DACA status who reside in a WWAMI state and who are legally authorized and recognized by their state’s residency office as a resident for WWAMI educational purposes will be considered for admission. (See State Eligibility).

Alternates Offered Acceptance

The University of Washington School of Medicine has a ranked alternate list for each cohort. The table below indicates the position reached on the alternate list for each cohort and year. If it shows a 2, for example, that means the final acceptance offered that cycle was to alternate #2.

Seattle (WA & OOR) Spokane AK MT ID WY
E-2023 47 6 9 12 21 2
E-2022 41 5 3 2 9 2
E-2021 49 8 1 11 4 2
E-2020 47 7 3 9 7 6
E-2019 24 4 11 4 8 3
E-2018 32 3 3 2 10 3
E-2017 30 n/a 4 4
E-2016 32 n/a 2 4 10 2

The whole number is the position on the waitlist; (#) is the actual number of applicants accepted. The difference is due to alternates declining the position.
